Since its humble inception in 1978, production of thatch  tiles started  in a home garage using the indigenous Cape reed scientifically known as “Thamnochortus insignis” which has been used for centuries in the Cape for thatching house. .

As our local market grew,  opportunities for the international market became possible.The United States was the first export market targeted and with time expanded to other countries.

The Sunshaders is a  proudly South African company and twice the winner in the agro-processing category.

The Present

We are family business and today the company is managed  by  Dolly Balebogile Küng and working close to her is their daughter Khomo Cleopatra Küng.

At present export markets include USA, Europe, UAE, Middle East and Australia. As has been the case since the company’s inception, all marketing efforts are focused on further expansion locally and internationally.

The Sunshaders remains the best company worldwide in the manufacturing of the reed thatch tile  despite the many copy cats that have since emerged. We  continue  to be highly productive and quality conscious, factors that keep our clients very happy.
